Go along to the ancient Westgate Museum on Halloween for a spooky,
spine-tingling storytelling session. On Saturday 31 October, Mike
O'Leary will be recounting ghostly goings-on and bringing tales
of horror to life.
The sessions at 4.30pm and 5.30pm are ideal for school aged children
and their parents, but places are limited so pre-booking is essential.
The event is free, but you need to book in advance by ringing
the museum on 0196.... All children under the age of 12 years
old must be accompanied by an adult.
Each story telling session starts from outside, before heading
up the stone steps to the upper chamber and then onto the roof.
Sher Kent, Winchester City Council's Museums Service Manager,
said: "Halloween Horrors in the Westgate is part of our year-round
family events programme in the city's museums. These story telling
sessions are very popular and because of space we have to limit
numbers to 15 children at each session. Please don't be disappointed
- book your place now! If you would like to get into the Halloween
spirit, why not come dressed in your creepiest costumes?"
Cllr Patricia Stallard, Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture,
Culture and Sport, added: "It is great to see the Westgate's
unique historic atmosphere being used to such good effect. This
is the latest in an ever-expanding repertoire of enjoyable family
events in our museums designed to introduce new audiences to the
history of our district."
