27th March: Light Nights Festival in Portsmouth

A Lantern Parade and a bus tour will guide you around the city, to events that include spooky encounters at New Theatre Royal and City Museum, unique light shows at the King’s Theatre and Southsea Castle. Story Telling for young ones at the City Library, some bright new young artists at Art Space and a family craft day at Gunwharf Quays. From 3.00pm Story telling for young ones led by Michael O’Leary. 5.00pm.

Young people can gather up Lanterns made by Dot To Dot and join a parade around the Guildhall Square The New Theatre Royal. ‘’Taking Time’’ 4.00pm/5.00pm/6.00pm. A strange and spooky tour of the theatre’s stairs, passages and hidden corners. What’s in this cupboard? Who’s this coming down the stairs? What’s behind there? Dare you open the door? FREE ENTRY As the clocks go forward and the nights get brighter, we’re throwing light on some of Southampton’s hidden treasures. Join us for a free night of fun, family entertainment – come and explore Southampton's extraordinary and iconic history and culture after nightfall. You can join a ‘Great Expedition’ along the old walls of the city, in the Nuffield Theatre’s Victorian melodrama promenade, hear some spooky stories at the Maritime Museum from a master storyteller Michael O’Leary, or take a relaxed look at the work of the painter Turner and rejoice in Handbags and Gladrags, just two of the spring exhibitions open all evening at Southampton City Art Gallery.
